Ideogram 4.5 prompts
Ideogram 4.5 takes plain-language instructions or a structured JSON prompt, up to 10,000 characters. Natural language is converted into a structured prompt automatically; valid JSON is used as is. The examples below are quoted from partner documentation, with the source next to each.
Edit prompt examples
| Edit type | Prompt | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Recolor | Change the sneakers to sand suede, keep the laces white | Morphic |
| Relight | Make it golden hour, low sun from the left, same composition | Morphic |
| Text edit | Change the headline to OPEN AIR CONCERTS, same lettering | Morphic |
| Removal | Remove the cables and the power strip, keep the desk | Morphic |
| Object swap with reference | Replace the armchair by the window with the green velvet sofa from the reference image. Keep the floor, the rug, the window light and the plant exactly as they are. | each::labs |
| Translate lettering | Change the headline on the poster from “Summer Sale” to “Sommerschlussverkauf”. Keep the same hand-drawn brush lettering, the same orange color and the same position. Do not change the photo, the logo or the small print. | each::labs |
| Translate, short form | Translate the headline into Spanish in the same brush lettering. Keep everything else unchanged. | each::labs |

The pattern behind a good edit prompt
Every example above has the same three parts:
- The change — one specific instruction: what, where, into what.
- The source of truth — if a reference is attached, name its job (“the sofa from the reference image”).
- The keep list — the elements that must not move: lighting, floor, logo, small print, composition.
A reusable template:
[Change X to Y] [using Z from the reference image]. Keep [A], [B] and [C] exactly as they are.
Rules that keep edits contained
- State explicitly which elements must stay unchanged.
- Use 3–4 clean, well-lit reference images at most, and give each one a single job.
- For text, quote the old and new wording and ask for the same lettering, color and position.
- Fix a seed while iterating so you are comparing prompts and not random variation.
- Explore on very low or low quality, then rerun the final prompt on high.
- Use structured JSON in automated pipelines; it is easier to version and reuse.
- When the boundary matters more than the wording, add a mask.
FAQ
How long can an Ideogram 4.5 prompt be?
Up to 10,000 characters.
Should I write JSON prompts?
Not for manual work. Plain language is converted to a structured prompt for you. JSON is useful when prompts are generated by code.
Does Ideogram publish an official prompt list for 4.5?
Ideogram's model page shows example edits with captions such as “Bedroom to boho” but does not print the prompts behind them.
